The Sea from Here (ii)

This project leads on from The Sea from Here, but rounds back to Cass’ painting practice. Instead of photographs, this time Cass is asking those of you with access to a coast if you’d consider sending a “sample” of your local sea-water. Each sample will be used to produce at least two seascape paintings – you’ll receive one. As with Where Once the Waters, this artwork explores seas around the world.

Where Once the Waters

In 2022, David exhibited during the first months of the Venice Biennale. The exhibition explored the global issue of sea-rise, by examining local variations in rates of change. Sea-level “readings” were produced for each participant, specific to their birth-year and place. The idea is to bring home a topic which will – in coming decades if not already – touch us all. You are invited to take part in a future version of the project, which was recently showed in Massachusetts, USA.
